Some of the Ford products had a 2.3 liter engine, and I think I have heard about a 1.8 liter, but can't remember what it was in. Anybody fill in the blanks - smallest production engine (US only)?? And if yu have rated hp specs so much the better.
Do you want to limit it to Ford exclusively? And to Automobiles, I assume?
By US only, do you mean available in the US, or manufactured in the US?
Ford of England produced a 1.6 liter that was available here in the Ford Cortina and the Mercury Capri. Ford Anglia of the '60s had a 997cc engine available. The Ford Fiesta, introduced in '81, offered a choice between a 957cc, an 1100cc, and a 1300cc. Other manfacturers built engines in cars all the way down to 600cc that I know of (Honda HR600, the first Honda car imported here).
There was a 2000cc version of the 2.3, the same engine basically but with a smaller bore. That was a US built model. I don't know if the 1.8 and the 1.9 were built here or in Japan.

As stated; the Fiesta used the 1.6........don't believe the 1.0 or 1.3 were available in the States.
Smallest engine used in a Ford product, sold in America? The 1994 Aspire had a 1.3-liter 4-banger. DOHCmarauder is correct- all of the Fiestas sold in the U.S. had the 1.6-liter, which was the same size used as standard equipment in the '71 Pinto (2.0-liter was optional). I almost bought a '78 Fiesta- sweet little car (handled like a go-kart!). Too young to get financed on my own at the time. I know, I know- most of you here weren't even BORN in 1978!

I am sure there are smaller, but the *** .009 cubic inch Tee Dee(?)engine comes to mind. I have that and it's big brother the .010 cubic inch stump puller version. I can hide both in my closed hand at the same time along with their integral fuel tanks.
As far as auto engines, I think 1600 is about as small as the US made ones went. I think the Honda 2 cylinder way back in the late 60s was the smallest auto engine, something like 600cc in a car. I remember a build up in Hot Rod Magazine back in the early 70s.
