Well I have a fuel smell in my oil and the oil seems pretty thin...I get no smoke and I have a new fuel pump on it "mechanical" that is only a few months old...I have not done a compression test on it yet...Not sure on my intake gasket as it has not been off in years. Anyone???
Check the diaphragm in the fuel pump. A tear there lets fuel go directly into the crankcase. Once worked on a Dodge Duster with a 383 jammed into it and the crankcase had 8 quarts or "oil" in it. Got terrible gas mileage too.
Thanks guys...Will report back when I get it nailed down.
I am going to replace the Mechanical fuel pump with an electic since I am going to a Clifford 4-barrel intake. So that alone will rule out either of the two scenario's given...Will see...
While your at the carb, check your float levels. If they are high, it will allow gas to leak down into the manifold, eventually getting into the fuel.
Also a bad needle and/or seat, could be allowing fuel pressure to leak into the carb after the float is at the shutoff point. Going into the manifold/engine when you park the truck. This sometimes sends a tell-tale fuel vapor out the top of carb when the engine is hot.
I vote for the carb bowl draining down overnight. Does it take a while for the engine to start? Sorta like it has to wait for the pump to get some fuel up to the carb? Jag
I'd bet on the fuel pump diaphragm, if it is that noticeable of a smell. But I wouldn't rule out anything, just cover all the bases before you wipe some bearings!
