I just picked up a 1987 ranger w/4cyl 5spd,and only 82,000 miles, it works great until its driven a while then no clutch. If you let it sit then try again (1or2 hours)it will go again.I know it has a hyd.clutch.THis truck has not been used much over the last 3 years. Any ideas?
when i start out (cold truck)every thing works fine, then after truck is driven a while like yesterday i had driven about 32 miles then when i came into a town, and downshifted the clutch wouldn't engage, slipping.then i stopped and it would not move ,like the clutch pedal was pushed in but was not.after we towed it home,50 miles and 190.00 dollars later.you could start it up and move it.the fluid is full.
probably a bad master and or slave cylinder. I would go for the master first to replace, look for fluid below the master and inside the cab under the mats/carpet. Slave could also be bad look for leaks around it. Not sure how it is mounted external or internal, if external change with the master for GP's
yep, you might want to also make sure the clutch itself isnt worn alot too, I had a car that would slip horribly thanks to a worn clutch, till it just said screw you to me, and died at a traffic light. it might need replacing, but I'm not sure sure on that, check what these guys said first, then what I suggested if the problem persists.
there is nothing leaking,so i drove it to work today and back home then to get back to get food later on without cooling down much.like 20 min or so. seemed to be ok this truck has been only used a few times over the last 3 years only 82k on it so i would say only about a few hundred miles over that time.
Well the clutch should be sealed from rain, so that wouldn't really be a factor. When there is "no clutch", is there resistance in the clutch still, or does it just go to the floor without any resistance at all?
