I have a few questions. I don't want to go down the MAF path, due to it seeming more work than what I want.
One question is, I saw comp cams, made a specific cam for the Speed Density computer, that wasn't agressive. With a thing like Tweecer, will I be able to go to more of a aggressive cam?
Basiclly with Tweecer, It would eliminate the need for a chip, correct? Since I could basiclly tune it instead of using a chip?
Would my best bet be IF I can find a shop around here that tunes to take my truck there instead? I'm guessing it will be a similar price to tweecer, and they could dyno tune it, etc. Only thing that I don't like about this is everytime I would add a new part I would have to throw down another $400 or so to get it tuned.
My understanding is that with Tweecer you can run a more aggressive cam, but you still can not get over the fact that you can't run a cam with any overlap. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that S.D. can't handle overlap, regardless of the tune.
And yes, Tweecer will eliminate the need for a chip, since you will be controlling all of the parameters of the tune yourself. My advice is to buy the Tweecer system, and have someone that’s knowledgeable in tuning help you the first couple times you use it. From what I've seen and heard it shouldn't be 'that' hard to learn, I'll be using it on my EFI 460 buildup.
I'm not fimiliar with the specifics of Tweecer tuning, but I'm using a similar aftermarket EFI speed density system in my 521. Cam specs are 236/240 @ .050 (296/300 advertised) and 110 degree lobe separation. It's true that the longer cam duration causes lower (and sometimes erratic) MAP values, but I have been able to tune the motor pretty easily. I bet the Tweecer can handle it as well as my system does.
i called about a cam for my truck and Jegs said that no tuning was neccessary?? I would find it hard to believe that the truck wouldnt respond to some custom tuning though.
they will always respond to some custom tuning. Factory tuning is a comprimise at best, so doing some tuning will always be an improvement even if that is all you do.
