I test drove an 05 5.4 today, what a dog!

I currently have a 1999 F150 4x4 4.6 5sp short bed reg cab which I bought new. I have had the itch lately for a new truck and I went and test drove a couple today, both 05's. One was a 4.6 supercab STX 4x4 and the other was a 5.4 supercab Lariat 4x4. The 4.6 was really and I mean really a slug, and I still wasn't very impressed with the 5.4. I was kind of dissapointed to tell the truth. My 99 will definitely run circles around either one of them. I don't really need a truck to be fast, I do understand that these are not sports cars but neither one would get out of their own way.

Yeah....but do you realize that newer truck has more weight than 1999 (your truck) ??

Tuner, catback and cold air intake system will wake 5.4 up, its not need to have it all but tuner will do fine.

From what i read from some forums is that Ford realized that truck is way too heavy and motor should have better ie: HP/torq but was too late...but hey 28 yrs and is best selling soo....

Hmmm, I feel like mine is pretty quick for a big truck. Of course I came out of a 94 regular cab with a straight 6. I guess anything would feel faster.

I have never driven a SD with the V10 but I think it has around 365 HP.It should be a lot quicker than the 5.4 in the F150, which would be nice.If someone wants a real fast vehicle they should look at the new Ford GT'$.Good Luck!

The first thing I noticed in the 05 opposed to my old 2000 was you dont notice the 40 extra horsepower or the much lower torque curve until your hooked up to something (towing) ive got the 05 in a reg cab config so not at all the best option for towing. But it sure towed the boat to the lake great today much better than my 2000 did(what the heck the truck is only 24 hours old might as well break her in)....also would like to see that 99 hook up hitch to hitch with one of those "slow dog" 05 5.4s, awww the smoking clutch and burning rubber. Kinda brings a tear to your eye. LAte-MassDog

I was ready to sign the paperwork on a used 02 f250 v10 6 speed. That thing had some *****. the tires broke loose with very little throttle. the dealer didn't even want my old 250 as a trade, they offer me like 1000 for it. So no deal. I got the 04 with the 5.4 and think it goes just fine, gets out of it's way excellent for what it is. All I have towed with it is a buddy's toolbox on the trailer, and she pulls it great, forget that it's there. My dad's 2000 f150 with the 4.6 runs ok, but with the trailer it should be in the dictonary with the definition of dog.

I like my 150. Its fast enough. If I wanted something that had a sub 6 sec. 0-60, Id have ordered a 05 Stang GT.

My truck tows like a mother, thats what I got it for and thats what I need it for and its perfect for that. I don't think its that sluggish, I don't think the 4.6L 2wd longbed 04 we got is sluggish eather.

Well, not untill I drive the Sprinter around for a while. That Benz IL4 turbo diesel can hand any drivers butt to them. Im willing to bet it could atleast keep up with a mustang GT off the line.

I guess thats why they called it the Sprinter.

I have had my 05 Lariat almost two months now and have no complaints about power whatsoever. I just turned in my 03 Expy with the 2 valve 5.4L engine. Both the Expy and the Lariat have a 3.73 axle. I love the new 3 valve engine. It sounds and feels more powerful that the 5.4L engine in my 03 and 00 Expeditions. This truck runs strong, have yet to tow my boat but from what others have shared it should do fine. I'm happy with the 16.5 mpg with mixed highway and city driving. Not bad for a heavy 4 x 4 !
