2000 Mazda B3000, auto, V6, 3.0L, 79 000 km's. I am having problems after the vehicle sits for any length of time (over night or longer). Once and a while after start up, I hold the brake, place the gear selector in Drive and the truck will not take off. I have to step on the gas and suddenly, it feels like the rear brakes release and then the truck is fine. I do not get the problem if the truck has moved in the past few hrs. The problem is not the emergency brake because I do not use it. I am not sure if it is a coincidence, but I find the problem happens when it is damp or has rained. It has done this in the summer as well as the winter. I have no idea what it might be, (trans, rear diff, brakes?) Any help would be appreciated. I have not checked trans fluid or the rear diff.
Thank you in advance and sorry for the long post.

Reason: add km's.
check to see if backplate plugs have fallen out. without plugs it can allow water to enter the drum causing this problem. also maybe your springs are weak not alowing brake pads to release fully after driving. although in my experience water inside the drum would cause the breaks to be grabby, possibly lock up when first applied and several times after until the shoes are dry. hope this helps
The lining material that Ford uses on their brake shoes is prone to absorbing moisture. This has been around for some time now and is nothing new. This seems to happen on humid nights and/or times of heavy rain and results in the brake locking up for the first few applications until dry. Myself, I'd throw a different brand of shoes on there and see what happens.
hmm, 6 year old shoes, i would also check the hardware. but i was not aware of the ford pads being prone to moisture. thank you for that bit of info. i was always a chevy kinda guy till i seen my b4000 couple weeks ago.
