im looking a 3.0 swap from a 94 ranger and i ran across a post stating the bolt pattern was different. if so would it be posible to just use the bollhousing from the doner on my 5 spd?

i looked into this before and found it not a suiteable swap . almost worthless if you ask me . your better offf saveint time and just doing a 4.0 swap . but if you really wanna do it get a second opinion but you probaly could just find a tranny with the removible bell and do it that way . but get a second opinion.!

well like i said the motor is on the market and i can get it inj my hands for 500 and get anything i need. i know there is only like a 10 horse diff but the 2.9 has taken a crap and even though its got to do with the engine managment system im so sick and tired of chasing trouble codes down just to recieve a new one with with each replaced or rewired part i do and only marginale improvements. the thing that is tearing up about it that the thing has cost me a job before and im just now beginning to get back on feet after having my stereo stolen out of my honda accord (they tried to take the car but hey atleast the couldn't figure why the coil wire wass off) and im ready to resume the bad b2 project. but back on subject. the truck when i got it did smoke. not terribly bad but still. so i pulled the dis out and it had way to much play in it so i replaced it with one from the local boneyard. now the thing no longer smokes but it runs rich and the timing is so far off that its pathetic. ive tryd endless times for hours to ge the timing right (with the spout out of course) and all i can get is it dies one way and wont run the other. when it does run it misses something horrible and the engine will not rev past 1500 the 2k rpm. it just will not. it acts almost like there is not enough spark to it. i've tryd so much on the truck im starting to give up on the 2.9 with les than 100k on the motor. i've replaced the plugs tfi module fuel and air filters timing chain button cap and wires coil ingnition switch yada yada. but after i first put the dis in the truck ran awsome. **** loeads of tourqe didn't smoke or try to dye but it did miss.

I don't recall anyone doing a 2.9 to 3.0 swap. I would try to find the problem with the 2.9, what codes did you get (see the tech info post on pulling codes) and how is the fuel pressure?

your better off to either fix your 2.9, or swap in another 2.9 or 4.0.
a 3.0 would not be worth the money.

well like i said i've had it for some time now. i've pullsed the codes in the past i always got the idm code. but nobody what this frieking part is. i've checked and rechected the wires but still nothing. the 3.0 was 500 and pretyy much anything i needed would be included. the pos has fuel and air but the spark is fudged up. if anyone knows how to fix the idm problem and get the tach working pls tell me something. this thing still has alott of miles on it but the spark is killing it. when i find the keys ill get my old pick up coil out of the old dis and see what happens.

and... I'm going through an engine swap right now. My 2.9 spun a rod bearing. There's about 135000 miles on the engine. I'm swapping it out for another 2.9 with 85000 miles on it. This was cheaper than a rebuild. When I disconnected the wiring for egine pulling some of the wires came out of the connectors. Some of the connecters were corroded quite bad. Check your wiring at the connectors, left side at firewall. Could have a loose one there driving you up the wall.

You WILL need to also swap tranny's if you put a 3.0 in it. The 3.0 has a different bellhousing pattern than the 2.8/2.9/4.0. You will have to use a 3.0 4WD tranny, which is the mazda tranny with an integral bellhousing.
