I am looking for info on this mod for a 2005 350 Super Duty crewcab 6.0 Diesel 4X4..
Pros and cons please
I have been all over this site and can't find info specific to my Truck.
Thank you!
leave it stock, stock is the best system you can have on your truck for protection. it is also a pretty good system when it comes to airflow. The stock filter will give you much much better protection..i wouldnt waste your money, but its up to you.
As several posts in the past have stated, stock seems to have been proven to filter the best. I think that if you drive your truck 99% of the time on the streets and highways an after market filtration system should not hurt anything. Will you gain anything, that will most likely depend on the amount of modifications you plan in the future.
I have had 2 Dodge Diesels(1996 & 1998). I modified the second one and was very happy. I am VERY leery about the FORD. I have put a Banks exhaust system on and the Air Raid. Everyone says AIR FLOW is important for diesel engines. I use Truck(F350 4X4 Crewcab long bed) to haul a 4,000lb(loaded) Lance Camper and tow a 2,800lb boat. Compared to my Dodge the power and fuel economy sucks. With my Dodge I was a GAUGE WATCHER driver when towing, and that worked out great.
I have decided not to get a Tuner for the FORD because of all the Bad stuff about them on this site. I want power, fuel savings and dependability. My Dodge was awsome for power and fuel, but the stuff around the engine, suspension etc. sucked. I think that they have improved those things now. But, when I went to buy a truck I got the last 1 ton 4x4 long bed left in the STATE of all manufacturers that had all the stuff I wanted. Without ordering new.
To be quite candid, this site scares me about the dependability of the FORD...unless you go 50 in a 65 mile an hour road without towing the FORD motor may explode.............
Uomeone: 90% of the driving on my 04 6.0 has been towing either a 30ft fifth wheel or a 24ft enclosed car hauler. The truck has been totaly reliable. I would like to suggest that someone with four posts prehaps should check their facts a little better before making such statements.
Before I even posted anything I SEARCHED through as many of the threads I could. I Used the Search link for the forums I wanted to read. I went to the Home page for info..... I haven't KILLED the Ford I'm trying to learn more about it. It is just I read a lot of negative experiences in this site. HOWEVER, I must admit, as the threads date came closer to 2005 year the responses were not as troublesome. But, I have heard Ford is again going to change the Diesel...I am definiteky not a mechanic but what is up with that?????
I just bought my 06 4x4 diesel F250. I put Airaid, RBP exhaust and Edge in it. Maybe too soon though. Anyway, I have been pleased with the Airaid system. I ran it without the Edge chip and it does run better than stock. Stock is good for protection, but unless you're racing the Paris Dakkar rally...who cares. I think any after market air system is an improvement over stock, especially when running it with exhaust or other mild mods. My Gas truck showed little to no improvement with an aftermarket intake. The diesel is much better, especially when towing or flooring it.
In regards to the guy who bashed the guy for only having 4 posts, keep in mind that their are guys, like myself, who are new to a forum but have a lot of automotive knowledge and experience. Number of posts have nothing to do with knowledge.
I'm glad to be on this forum. I also recently joined "socaps" (southern california power strokes) That's a good one too.

Reason: typos
If you want to know from proven perfomace people check Pinnacle Performance Exhaust in Dubois Wyoming or Baker Diesel in Ogden Utah they both have web sites.

I would guess at first glance this site would seem negative towards the 6.0 . If you were to go into a Dodge site I would expect to see nothing but tranny and suspension problems and complaints. Every make whether it be GM, Dodge or Ford will have it's downfalls somewhere. I own a '04 6.0 CC 4X4 Lariat and have had alot of the same problems I see posted on this site. This is my first psd and I was discouraged at first but thanks to everyone in this site I was able to talk with my Ford tech with some usable knowledge. As a matter of fact I am picking it up from the shop today and we think we finally have all my problems solved. I have drivin some other 6.0's and they were very impressive, without a problem from day one. Don't let this site scare you. It has educated me.
I wouldn't worry about the reliability factor, don't forget how many powerstrokes are built, keep an eye on the big picture this is a forum for ford truck owners to exchange information, good or bad. My truck had more problems than I expected but they were taken care of, under warranty.
this topic has been discused soooooo muuuccchhhh, and its getting way off topic here. Honestly if u want to spend 250 or so just go get an airfilter if its goin to make you happy. If you dont want to stock is great leave it, bottom line
