I am about to start on my 56 f-100 that I've had 16 years, my first car by the way, and I need what I would assume to be typical rust repair, lower cab corners, floor etc. My question is has anyone had any experience with patch panels from a specific manufacturer? I know there is good and bad stuff out there, I just don't know who is who. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Welcome to FTE Opey, here is a link from a few days back that should get you started. There has been a lot of information in the past concerning patch panels so do a search and you will find plenty of others.

Take a few minutes to read the sticky threads at the top of the forum and then set up your gallery so we can see your project truck. We all like pictures of these old vehicles and the work being done on them. 
With respect to the patch panels, I'm just about to dive into my cab repairs so I'm interested in the same information. I'll be running the search engine shortly to see what I can find in the forum archives. If you do the same, click on search, then on advanced search. Choose the 1948-1960 forum in the list box at the lower-right of the advanced search page. Then search using terms like
+patch +panel +quality
or something similar. Good luck with the search.
