Question Dumb question - How to transport a complete engine?

So I've moved engines before by mounting them on a storage cradle and strapping it down into the bed.

I'm in the process of purchasing a complete Y-block from intake to pan and I don't think they make cradles for these blocks. (if they do, please tell me!)

How should I move this w/o damaging it? Resting it on a pallet doesn't sound too secure. Should I mount it on an engine stand and strap that down?

It is a 250 mile trip, so its gotta be secure.

a good method i've used (learned from salvage yards). is to use a 15 or 16 inch truck tire w/o the wheel. lower the engine onto the tire so it sits half way decent and then use straps to secure to sides of truck bed to keep engine from rocking side to side. cheers, garsten

I've always used tires, the Y-block pan is fairly shallow, and sits in the taller, wider 15 or 16 inch truck tires very well. I've never had a problem shiping them that way. I left the wrecking yard I worked at last week, to go build airplanes, and I know that when we would ship motors via a freight company, we would put a tire on a pallet, and set the motor in the tire, and strap the whole thing to the pallet, and they would make it to their destination with no problem.
