Gas is outragious and now I'm noticing my van has dropped to 10 MPG, I was running the HWY and decided to check it because the needle was down compared to miles on the trip meter. It's a 99 ext E-350 with the 5.4, I have 107,000 miles, but had new plugs put in 10,000 miles ago, K&N air cleaner is good to go too. I was thinking about replacing my O2 sensors when I get the cash, but there are absolutely no codes telling that they are bad. I thought about removing my tuner from it and checking mileage, but don't want to bother, that can't be it now, it's been in for 30,000 miles without a problem.
I hate the factory 3.55 gears, I hope to swap out with a 4.10 rear end one day, I want more go from a stop and need the city driving mileage to improve, maybe stop some of the annoying down shifts on the HWY too. Do the spring perches on the F-350 dually truck rear axles match the ones used in the vans and if not, would it be possible to swap in one from one of the commercial box vans?
If I can't improve this pig, I'll have to park it and get something else to daily drive, and that is hard to do because I use a wheelchair.
Hey Maples.
You in TN??
Anyway, I don't think the trk rear ends will match. You can remount the spring perchs etc. It will just take time.
I am also wanting to switch to 4.10s....That was b4 the recent gas price BS.
Now I am leaning towards DXing my Ford for a Sprinter RV.
Yeah, I'm in middle TN.
The Sprinter isn't really a Dodge, it's a combination Mercedese/Freightliner concoction, I'm quite impressed with them myself, saw a stock one that recieved 540,000 miles on it, before the transmission started slipping. A stripped cargo version with no windows or rear AC is listed at $30,000 base price, I don't see any used ones reasonably priced in my area. Wheelchair users are looking into them because lowering the floor or raising the side door is not needed for entry, makes them some what popular, my income doesn't allow purchase.
