High stall converter for street Bronco

I've been browsing some topics and hope someone can help...I have a '90 Eddie Bauer with a '93 302HO. I used the stock 302 intakes and ECU. The engine is .030 over w/E303 cam. (.498 lift 282 dur.) The tires are 265/75r15 ATs. It has a AOD with a 3.55 lim slip rear. I need to install a high stall torque converter to stabilize the idle and use the cam's power band.
1. Is 2400-2500 a proper stall?
2. Is a cheap JC Whitney converter as good as B&M, or Pro Torque, etc.?
3. Can I use a converter for any AOD 5.0L, or does it have to be "truck specific"?
The 302HO really screams and I think this will help give me a better launch. In the future I plan to install shorty headers, jet performance module, air intake and throttle body spacer. If I can get some help on the converter issues I'd really appreciate it.

What auto trands is it? I have a 95 that I modified and I also bought a new converter.I have an AODE, which is the electronic o.d. My converter cost me almost 600 bucks. Beacause it's an e trans the converters cost more.

you have asked this over in another forum didnt ya. your gonna get the same answers here. your running the wrong cam with the stock efi system. and a stall converter is not good for a bronco period. your truck is not a mustang so dont build it as such. you will find it runs better if you build it accordingly.

Thanks for the info...Yes, I've been asking for input on other sites and I'll be installing a new cam soon. Some advised me to convert to mass air, but whats the point? I can fix all my problems with the correct cam, and I'd have to change cams with mass air anyway. For the $600 or so for mass air, I can keep the speed density system & buy the right cam & some bolt on goodies. Thanks again for the help & I'll let you know how it runs after the cam swap.

I have an e-303 cam in mine also. I would agree that the cam is too much. But after the converter swap and the proper tune it is great.I am going to swap the cam soon, to a stick that will get the power in the correct range for a 5000 lb. vehicle. My question. Why is a converter bad for a bronco?

every auto tranny has a converter but having one with a stall greater then 1200rpms is not good. especiall if you wheel at all. most 4wd happens at slow speeds so when you need power you get the motor all rapped up to get ya moven then stuff will start breaken. for a car that uses the hi rpms anyway its fine.

what everyone must understand is just because theres a 302 in the bronco/f150 doesnt mean it drives or has the same power range/needs as a mustang. they are different beasts and need to be delt with accordingly. otherwise your combo will be way way off. much like yourfinding out Rudder9. that e cam makes power to hi in the rpms for your rig. so your probably using a lot more gas then if you had the proper cam using the proper range.

I have a 89 bronco. First time w/ mass air ford motorsports, shortey headers, stock pistons, & the wrong camshaft ! Was sold on for a carbed. engine mine efi, lived w/ it till oil pump gave out. distroyed bottom end ! Removed it did a 347 stroker ! Roller cam, rockers, ford motorsports timming chain. But W/stock head's & Intake , big mistake. Never again !!! now the heads burnt valve !!!! Now Going to get head's intake Edelbrock. I hope it will last for awhile !!! One thing i can say it would run. It was used for pulling a 16' trl.

which converter brand and/or model would any of you guys recommend? I'm probably going to be replacing my tranny in not too long a time and would like to hear some ideas for a good torque converter.

it will depend on how your using the rig. what all youve done to the engine etc... since your running an e4od i hope your saving up for that build cuz it wont be cheap. i would do a search on line for tranny builders and see what is out there.
