take a look at these tailshaft housings, i don't think the mount moves much if any? i think the answer might be in fabbing a crossmember or modifying yours? maybe give David Kee a call?

Falcon shifters come off the side and use a different length tailshaft. Ford used that toploader in several forms up until the 1970s, but only one is a direct fit into a Falcon.
Your tailshaft is probably not quite right length either. You may need to modify your driveshaft.
Try www.dearbornclassics.com or www.melvinsclassicfordparts.com. One of them may have an adapter bracket that will work for you.

Ford did indeed install the T-10 in the majority of Falcons, Comets, and Rancheros with the 260-289 in 63-65. Some of the Rancheros and a small numer of Falcons and Comets got the Toploader. My early 64 Futura convert was born with a 260 and a two speed Ford-O-Matic trans. I converted it to a correct T-10 but was not satisfied with the constant popping out of gear, particularly 3rd. I installed brand new "back cut" syncho assemblies, not just the brass. It still popped out. Once I rebuilt a toploader and put it in I solved the problem. I can downshift hard into any gear and it has never popped out of gear.

Mike65 - your ranchero requires the tail shaft and tailhousing for a Falcon v8 in order to fit. Mine came out of a big block fairlane and I got to where I could disassemble/assemble mine blindfolded before I got everything right. If yours came out of a bbig block car, you'll also need the input shaft so that the nose will fit far enough into the pilot bearing to prevent vibration and clutch problems.

1963/65 V8 Falcons used T-10's
1965/66 V8 Mustangs used T-10's
1965 V8 Falcons used Ford 4 speeds
1965/72 V8 Mustang/Fairlane/Torino used Ford 4 speeds
1963/65 I-6 Falcon's used Dagenham 4 speeds
1965/66 I-6 Mustangs used Dagenham 4 speeds.

The '65 Falcon, and the '65 Comet, V8, cars used a one year only, single application 4 speed transmission. Both T-10's and toploaders were available, though the T-10 is by far the most common. The Falcon/Comet trans was the same length as the '65-66 Mustang and had the same rear mount. It is shorter than the Fairlane and Galaxie transmissions. The internal gear sets were specific to the Falcon on the T-10. I can't say for sure about the toploader gear sets. The tail housings were different between the Falcon and the Mustang, due to different shifter locations/mountings. The Falcon shifter mounts to the extreme front of the tail housing, actually wrapping around the reverse shift lever (T-10 only), while the Mustang shifter mounts at the extreme rear of the tail housing. The Falcon rear mount was a cantilevered spring type mount, with the trans mounting holes running front to back, rather than the more common side to side. As I remember the spring was the same length for the 4 speed and the automatic trans. I can't say for certain about the length of the 3 speed spring. The shifters were specific to Falcon/Comet. Original ones are pricey, though as of a couple years ago Hurst offered shifters for both transmissions. grclark 351 mentioned David Kee as a parts source. In my opinion he is the final authority on top loader transmissions. Mr.Kee offers reproduction tailhousings which are the correct length and have the proper shifter mounting for a Falcon. Prices are very reasonable. A trip to his web site would be time well spent.
I have done this conversion many times. I found using the factory pieces always worked best.
Hope you find the above information helpful.
Good luck.

Is your motor a five bolt block? If so, you'll need the bearing retainer that is slightly smaller diameter around the collar. The casting number will start with C0 instead of C5. And yes, there is a special little leaf spring to hold it on to the crossmember. I bought mine about 15 years ago from Northwest classic falcons.
