I have found new parts for decent prices for converting my 1970 F-100 to PS and PB. If I get a new Master Cylinder with Booster, PS Box, and PS pump, is there anything else I would need other then mounting brackets and pullys for the engine block?
Jared is right on, The one rub that might be is if you have a three spd. Most of the trucks built from 73 on (where our conversion parts come from) also had auto trannys. There are some 73 and later 3spd columns out there but their numbers are small.
When I did the upgrade on my 70 F-100, I used the parts off of a 77. Make sure you get the front hard lines and the proportioning valve along with the line brackets and Prop valve bracket. You will have to drill or chisel off some rivets to get the line brackets. Also I had to use my 70 axles. I did use the 77 tierods though because the angle to the pitman arm on the 70 tie rods was too different to use on the 77 steering gear. The 77 axles made the front wheels stick out too far so you might as well get a king pin and bushing kit. Another thing I did was use the 77 automatic column and put in a Hurst Indy 3 speed floor shifter kit. As far as the brackets go you need to get ALL the brackets and pulleys including the crank pulley off of the donor truck, assuming it has the same engine as yours. My brake pedal now rides closer to the floor board but I don't know if it is going to effect the braking yet because I don't have the truck on the road yet.
OK guys, I got a ps gear, pitman arm, ps pump, and bracket from a '78 f-100 with a 302. It looks like the ps gear will bolt up with no problem. The bracket for the PS pumb does not look like it will work because it is from a 302 instead of a 360. I knew this might be a problem when I got it but I got all of the parts plus a winshield washer fluid resevoir for $20! I am still looking for a power break booster/master cylinder.
