I ordered an EGR valve for my ranger and as i'm walking out i checked inside the box and it's the wrong part. The part number that comes up on their computer is not even close to what i needed. The inlet port is parallel to the bolt hole on mine and the one they gave me was 90 degrees from it. After a half an hour of searching we found out that the one i need is the same as the 1998, the year they first introduced the 4.0 liter. Does this sound right? i searched the net for over an hour and found a motorcraft part number, but i can't cross reference it. The motorcraft # is cx1741 and the advanced auto part # is 7792519.

 

Are you sure you have a 2001, 2001 was the first year for the 4.0 SOHC engine, prior to that the 4.0 was a push rod engine.

 

I punched in the number at the Motorcraft website and here's what comes up:

So it looks like it is indeed the right part number for an '01 Ranger with the 4.0L SOHC.

When I look up the same part at Advance Auto I come up with Part No. 7792509

 

I just ordered the motorcraft part form Rockauto.com. I got it quicker and cheaper than Advance auto or autozone. Thanks for the heads up.
