questions about parting out a truck.....

As mentioned in the Saskatchewan/Manitoba forum i have a 58 long box 250 that i want to remove the cab and use for my truck.

How does the cab come off the frame ?
Does the steering wheel need to be removed first and then the cab lifted over the steering shaft ??
How heavy would a bare cab weight ? (no doors or seat, maybe no tank or glass too if it's too heavy)
Will the 4 speed bolt onto the bellhousing of my 223 ? (It is a V8 truck)

Is there anything that anyone would want from this truck ? Pictures of it are in my gallery

remove the steering wheel column drop and floor cover and pull the column off the shaft then unbolt the steering box and pull it and the bare shaft out thru the engine compartment. That would be a tall lift otherwise!

I had 4 guys one on each corner of my '55 cab. Not really that heavy, just kind of awkward.

I too lifted the cab of my '55 off with just my Dad's help. No doors, no seat.

The steering column and box can come out through the cab. I know. A bare cab doesn't weigh that much; I've loaded one into a pickup single-handed.

The light-duty 3 speed uses a different bellhousing to the 4-speed.

Yeah, once you get the steering wheel off, the mounting strap off the dash, and the steering box loose, you can take it out either way as AX and angus have mentioned.
