In park the idle is higher because it is not under a load. The oil pressure is low when it is in drive because the bearings are most likely worn and when the truck is under a load it may just have the idle low enough so the oil pressure is low. Id say the bearings are worn. Good luck!

I would put a gauge on it so you can see just what the pressure is doing. 10 lbs per 1000 rpm is ok.

my old 302 did that 4 awhile,, it was the babbit from one of the cam shaft bearings.... found it laying in the base when i chaged motors.

like they said, put a gauge in and keep an eye on it.. i ran mine for along time with 5 psi @ 1200 rpm... (100km's/hr)

Either the sending unit is going bad(unlikely) or your engine is just tired and worn out. 15lbs is the recommended lowest oil pressure at an idle. Any less any you are probably metal to metal at the crankshaft somewhere. It will live for a while at 5lbs idling but not forever. This will also wear parts like cams, lifters, rockers and what bearings are left. You can try running 20W50 motor oil, this may prolong the inevitable.

Id say as long as its not ticking or knocking you should be ok. Good luck
