Well, the dealer accessories folks did a fine job. They had told me they do about 20-25 of these installs a year, and that they had several more lined up after mine. They look great on the truck!! It really dresses it up. Being a 250, i think it should have them anyway.
One thing i am concerned about it that one or two of them don't quite seem to be seated all the way. The tail end of the light itself is not completely flush against the roof, almost, but not quite. You can push it down and it touches, but it doesnt stay that way. I assume it will seat once the gasket under the front of the light seats. Does anyone have their installation directions still? Would it be possible to scan them? I don't want to jack with them but i would like to see the schematics of it. I am very concerned with water leaks.....eeewww.
BEFORE you get leaks, pull those lights and hit the holes with silicone. That will stop that. Check the bolts that mount the lights to the cab, they just may be tightened down.
But definitley silicone the holes in your cab. You may want to touch up the holes with a little paint to prevent rust where they drilled also.
Well, thats why i wanted to see directions. Because the gaskets that are in there are double sided adhesive type, so if i take out the two screws, i still have to unstick the gasket. They already painted the holes they drilled. They left the touch up paint in the truck..
I took the lens off an looked. You can see the clear silicone has squeezed out a tad on one of the lights, so they put silicone on. The attaching bolts, if there are any, attach from the inside of the truck....so i will have to take the headliner down. Just seeing the silicone squeezed out makes me feel better. They are all on super tight, no movement, its just Fords poor design, there are no attaching screws near the rear of the fixture, so if the fixture is just a hair out of whack, it won't quite touch. They placement should be exact, it has a template for crying out loud.
I just bought a set of light, I'm going to do the install myself, once the wheather turns a little cooler. I hope this helps, this is what I was going to go by.....Good luck...
the thing that concerns me with those directions (i have seen them before) is that i do not see a TEMPLATE. I don't know if that guy bought the lights individually or what, but ford makes a KIT for your very application. Comes with lights and a template and gaskets so you dont have to measure and eyeball, it is an exact factory install....
You should be able to. I have a 05 250 with the moonroof and have been thinking about it as well. I know that someone stated that the holes are VERY close to the sunroof structor, but it does fit, I have seen one with them from the factory.
As far as silicone it is fine as long as it is acid free. I don't think that caulk will hold up very well. I installed the oem lights on my truck with no sealant (I did paint the bare metal edges) I found the Ford gaskets to seal very well and I did water test it with the headliner down.
