What programmer, tuner, chip or whatever can I get to help this gutless 5.4L Expedition of my wifes fuel mileage???
I think this is crazy the level of technology under the hood of this SUV and it run like it does. Gets about 13-14 MPG 15 at best town and highway. She doesn't drive it bad either as I had already thought that and I have had the thing out more than a few times checking it myself for mileage. Not to mention I would thing with that kind of fuel mileage numbers it would at least run like a raped ape,NOT...
We have had this SUV since new and have 10K on it now and I am sure it ain't going to get better fuel mileage or start running like the fuel consumption LOL. At least without some kind of help anyway.
So what does address the performance somewhat but mostly the better fuel mileage on this low suck 5.4 motor??? I know some of you guys here will know what to do, and the very reason I posted this. With current fuel prices, I need the help.
I would give anything if this SUV had a V6 Powerstroke in it. I just don't understand why they won't give us the better fuel mileage with the level of technology under the hood of these SUV's. I truely believe they can, but figure the only thing that makes sense of the low suck motor performance is the Oil industry is in bed with Ford. Money will cover lots of things up LOL. Someone point out the better programmer or whatever I need to do the do to this beast please.
Well, a better intake and exhaust will provide better MPG results. However, the words performance and better MPG's don't really belong in the same sentence. In order for a tuner to get you increased MPG's, it will be at the expense of having to run premiun gas, basically negating any $$$ savings. Still, you will see an increase in overall performance. You say the truck is gutless? How often to you "get on it"? If it's often, then don't expect your milage to improve. I get a noticable drop in MPG's when I go WOT, even just a few times per tank. If I feather it and go easy for the entire tank, in the same driving conditions, I get about 35 more miles per tank. I have been doing the exact same routine now for about 4 weeks and 6 fill-ups and I have seen the difference. Even little things things lik tire pressure and whether the windows are down or the A/C is cranked can make a difference in overall mileage. Just remember, this is a big, heavy, non-aerodynamic truck with a powerful V-8 in it, 15MPG is pretty decent and about average. You want better mileage, I'd suggest a motorcycle. I feel your pain on the gas prices, but I don't blame the truck, I blame... ugggh, don't get me started! Come out to Cali and fill 'er up, you'll feel a lot better about your Texas prices!!! But I did fill up next to friend of mine in his Dodge Hemi and he was about to cry after he calculated only 11 MPG. I felt downright proud of my 15-16 MPG average!!!
