Monday afternoon my truck started idling rough whenever I'd come to a stop. It would smooth out whenever I accelerated, but it would get rough again every time I'd come to a stop. i figured it was crappy gas, so I put some Shell V-power in it. Nothing improved, and by the time I got home from work, my engine light was on.
I had a business meeting about 100 miles away from home Tuesday afternoon, so I took it to the nearest dealer first thing Tuesday morning. I figured it was something minor, and that they would just reflash the computer or tweak something. 2 hours later they called me in and told me the #4 cylinder had ZERO compression. I managed to get the dealer to issue me a loaner even though I didn't buy my truck there.
This afternoon I received a call that my truck is ready! I'll report back on what the specific cause was, but I'm speculating it was a stuck valve or soemthing.
it sounds like a bad coil.... I had the same problem on my 02 and have seen TSB's on the later models I believe on this as well... same symptoms - typically the check engine light is triggered by a cylinder misfire.
Got my truck back this morning! Much quicker than they thought it would take, because the problem turned out to be a stuck injector. They replaced the injector, and now my truck idles and drives as smooth as it looks!

Great news!! You had me thinking it may have been the dreaded spark plug stripping problem....
Actually, I was wondering about that as well......would a stuck (open) injector allow compression back into the fuel rail...I would think there is some sort of a "check valve" or other way to keep this from happening?

Great news TXpitdog! I had exactly the same thing happen to me on my '05 Lariat 4X4 SCrew. Opened up a thread in July and NO one responded. It started running bad, then the engine light. I dropped by my dealer unannounced and they found a stuck injector and had me back on the road after a mere two hours in the waiting room (these guys are GREAT!) Sounds like your dealer experience was also good. Glad to hear it after so many complaints I read about here.

the injector is in the intake not the combustion chamber. they just feed you a bs line. the injector plays no part in the compression.
