scored a parts truck

hello everyone. i have a 72 f-250 with the old split rims. i have old nylon tires as well, snow tires in the back and one is bald. i use it regularly. i've been hunting for one - piece rims for it and a lot of junkyards either had them crushed or want way more than i want to pay. they're the 8-lug kind. thru looking for wheels i ended up with a whole truck for a cheap price. it looks awful, but runs. it turns out to be a 76 f-250. it has a 390 w/ a ford 4bbl and automatic transmission. i gave it a good run down the road, to about 65mph and i got back he told me they never drove it past 20 mph . it hasnt been registered for years, and only hauled firewood from 1/2 away occasionally. the most valuable part on it is probably the gas tank - cuz its half full!!
anyway, other than the wheels, what parts fit from that year onto mine? i imagine most body parts won't, but i don't need any. i would like the back window from it but i doubt that interchanges. it has power steering, which works good, could put it on mine? i have "armstrong steering" currently.

Power steering, disk brakes (complete I-beam swap), anything enginewise if yours is also an FE, the rear end, seat, and probably a few other things.

Sounds like a good score. I like to have pre 73 parts trucks because parts are getting harder to find around here.

Ford 6....You are correct about the interchange on everything except the rear axle. In 1973 Ford made the rear end an inch or 2 wider. He can use the 3rd member and I'm pretty sure all of the rear brake parts if he so chooses, but the rear axle housing is not a bolt in swap.

Dan, Don't know what you paid, but it sounds like quite a good score. It is very likely the 390 is actually a 360. Seems all of the FEs become 390s on sale day, because you visually can't tell the difference.

Have no idea why they only ran it 20 mph, I'll take my pickup with an FE out and use up all of the numbers on the speedo every now and again just for the testostorone rush.

Doc, The wider rears can be fitted to the earlier chassis by moving the pirches. I have one.

Good score, I have been looking for a parts truck in Colorado for a year and they are hard to come by. I need body parts which is even worse. Looks like I may end up shelling out for the fiberglass fenders for the 68.

I took the power steering off of a 76 250 and put it on my 68 F-100, it all worked great. The front sway bar worked as well.

thank u all for the replies. as for the rear end not fitting, i don't think i want it. my 72 has just under 75000 original miles. this 76 'parts truck' has either 217000 or 317000 who knows. i'm confused on the vin code it came with either a 351 or a 460 so i have no idea of the history of this 390 (which could be a 360) but its for sure a 4bbl FE. its hard to start and burns oil when it runs - i at least have a high performance mosquito killer. it does get up and go if u hit the gas just rite. the trans is supposed to be a c4. after i take the wheels, headlights, cab clearance lites, and some linkage parts, i'll either park it in back for a bit, or drive it to a boneyard, or give it to someone who could use it. i don't mind to park it awhile, it aint eatin nothing. i have a 2bbl 390 took apart in my garage as well so i should be set on FE parts for awhile.
the reason they never drove it over 20 mph... it isn't exactly road legal. they just went 1/2 mile away to the sawmill to get scrap wood to burn in their furnace and drove it back up the hill. this has to be one of the ugliest trucks i've ever seen.

oh and i noticed it has a breakerless (is that what u call it?) distributor, maybe i could swap that with my old one (which has points)

The ignition swap would be a good idea.

thats a good idea. i just used up the last few pics on a roll of film today on this truck. after it gets developed maybe i'll post them in a new thread to get a sort of ugly truck contest going. the key would be it has to be a running truck that u could actually be seen driving, not a wrecked truck or one sitting in a junkyard or something. if yall think its an idea, get some pics scanned....
