'91 Explorer Gas Gauge

Well, I was hoping that it was only the float that had the gas gauge on my sons Explorer sitting on empty all the time. Dropped the tank over the weekend. Yes, the float did have gas in it, but the gauge did not move no matter what I did with the sending unit, so I ended up replacing the whole thing (pump/sending unit assembly). Works fine now, picked up the replacement at Advanced Auto Parts for about $110.

Not that hard of a job. The filler neck on these trucks is too damn long so you need at least 6' of tubing to siphon the tank. The only other gotcha was the fact that one of the gas lines is 5/16. The smallest the 4-way decoupler tool I had was 3/8. Had to take an additional trip to buy the right tool. Otherwise a pretty straight forward job.

Good to hear that fixed the problem. I replaced my pump too but If I remember right I paid under $100 for mine two years ago, I'm thinking around $70 to $80 but forget now. I didn't drop the tank, I just cut a hole in the floor to get at the pump, then bent the metal back down. Wasn't a hard project at all.

Not a bad idea, cutting a hole in the floor. Would be faster than dropping the tank, but what the heck, thats why it i so much fun working on cars!

I thought that $110 wasn't a bad price, the thing comes ith a life time warranty. Seems like just about everything comes with a lifetime warranty these days (probably not a bad idea on parts for older vehicles).

I put some brake pads on my 2000 Excursion about a month ago. Even those came with a lifetime warranty.
