I want one of the slide out gun safes for my truck. i carry several guns all the time. I shoot trap & skeet every week. I'd hate to see my truck broken into & my favorite shotguns gone
I live out here in the boon dock and so I'v got a gun rack. Almost always got a .22 or shotgun in it. only take them out for school, it kinda frowned apon to show up to school with a gun anymore. Not real worried about someone stealing any of my guns because I have more to hunt them down with.
In my little corner of the world, a pickup truck isn't complete with out a gun rack in it, and I've seen cars with them. My 72 has one in the window, because of the in cab gas tank. My 79 has one behind the seat, it fits great.
I usually transport to and from the range and field in hard side cases. I like the durability of them over socks, and they are quicker to get at... I usually just have my pistol on the dash in its holster.
I grew up in rural north west La. I carried a gun in my gunrack all the time. I took a gun to school everyday & no one thought it was a bad thing. I have several guns with rub marks from being in a gun rack so much. I'd never try that in the Memphis area. I miss the old days.
My 1985 F150, that I just bought in June of this year, has a gun rack. I don't dare put a gun in the rack though, until I check out the legalities. The only gun I have anyways is a 12 gauge double barrell. The barrells are shortened a bit.
A couple of years ago I was fishin' for carp in the Red River and a game warden came along and gave me a hard time. He wanted to see my fishin' license and I told him it was in my truck (at the time, a lifted 1989 F250 4x4). So we walk to abouts 12 feet from the truck and he asks..."You got a gun in there?"
The game wardens around here know me well enough (for good reasons) that if my truck is somewhere, and it's in the outdoors then there is a gun nearby.
Half of them usually just converse with me anyway and usually ask what I got handy this time out. They do of course make sure I do have my fishing and or hunting license but we do more chit chat than official business.
They would much rather deal with people llike me all day long.
