This is one that was mentioned by no less than Ken Payne himself at the Rally. One of the things they'd like to see happen with the chapters is a chapter gallery with pictures from around our area - they don't have to be truck related.

Chapter leaders would be in charge of picking a picture every month for display, though I think nominations are a good idea.

They can be of a park, scenic view, historic site, monument, or just about anything. Though they do not HAVE to be truck related, I note that Tennessee has a lot of classic trucks and pretty girls around...

 

I have tons of the Smokey Mountains, hope to get more, I'd like to setup a meet there and get a convoy to ride the Dragons Tail down the mountain. I took some just recently at Loretta Lynn's ranch, you guys in west TN should try to get a meet with the middle TN guys there, it's close to a half way to you and is a great location for a group. These places are great for photographs, I have a good 35mm camera and I'm willing to take a group photograph of the ones who make the meets, they make great 8x10's, I have some of the last group I was with.

The last is Abrams Falls in Cades Cove, it's almost a 3 hour walt throught the mountains on a narrow path, it breath taking, but I can't do it again because of my accident, I wish I had my Minolta back then, well worth the walk.

 

I have fun just getting the lawn mowed in the heatwave we have out here, I do it in sections - half acre of it and a pushmower in hundred degree temps is no fun.

I've been looking into places to get out to the big river around where I am, now that the banks by Ballard Slough (pronounced "SLUE") are closed. The only riverboats to be seen are tugs with a long line of barges out front of them, but there's something about the Big River that always did grab my imagination.

How big is the lost sea? Were those BOATS I saw in those pictures?

 

It's cool inside that cave, my wife went down to the lake, she said it's pretty big, she went on the boat ride, no swimming.

 

Mind ya - these pics are from california, so they don't count. But the first is of a trail I used to enjoy, and you can see the kind of area it is. Dry, dusty. Hard to get to - it's about four miles in where I took the first one of the rocks coming up on the right. Much of the landscape is sere, except where chapparal grows tall enough to shade the trail. It's somewhat of a desert-like area. Aside from park vehicles only bicycles, horses, and hikers are allowed in.




Those so fortunate as to find their way over, in, and through those rocks find this in the center of them:

I have often seen Hawks, deer, and other wild critters in there. This is in the middle of Rancho Penesquitos Canyon Park in San Diego County.

 

The lost sea is underground inside the cave.

 

yeah, I gathered that much. But I have never seen anything like it before...

One day I need to just go out travelling like I planned all along.
