I need to go out there, but don't have extra cash for gas, I plan to do it after labor day.

All right then - we need to see who is available and when, and we ought to also try to stir up some more new members - especially if they are from near Cedars of Lebanon.

Been a while since I last did any member rustling anyway, it averages one new member every time I shake the tree...

Once we know who we have, and roughly when they can make it - we can firm up a date (hopefully) so that people really can and will turn out for it.

But we also need to think about what we might be able to offer to sweeten it a little.

Parks911 is essential - if he couldn't make it I don't see how we could do it since he has been all for the project from the beginning.

Vehicle decals would relly benefit the attention, a banner would work best, we could hang it on my van, since I'll have it parked in the park and driving the truck.

Greywolf would you like to ride with me to the cleanup. I'll be going alone so we need to ride together or follow each other to the meet. I think something like this will promote FTE well

That would work really well, especially if you get better mileage than I do. I'm worried about my front tires anyway...

Hopefully soon I'll come into some extra cash and can finish the interim modifications I wanted to have done a while ago. I'm also about to swap out the C6 in old dubblenutz (the Blue Mule) so that it gives it longer legs. The super swampers will probably have to go when I do that, I'm not sure yet.

Were you thinking of camping over saturday night?

My truck gets around 18 on the highway if you keep it below 2500 rpm. Its will drink gas if you go faster. I made it to Murphysboro from Memphis in 4 hours=340 miles. I got 10mpg on that trip. It was quick though.

Mine is to gasoline what I am to beer!
I'm pretty sure the average is about 12 mpg. It cost a LOT to get it back here from California after I retired. But then - I was having so much fun after being stuck in San Diego and going to sea all that time...

Everyone should do a road trip once in a while!!!

If I get far enough ahead in cash though, I'm seriously considering a V6 Ranger with a five speed. Or even a four cylinder, depends on what I end up with to work with.

Now - a "Courier" would be a laugh riot...

('Wunner if a 302 could be shoe-horned into one of those?)

Right now I'm not going to commit to anything. I know it sounds bad but I'm going one day at a time.

Katrina has wiped out a important part of our wonderful nation. I strongly feel that we should concern ourselves to that part of the nation first.

I'm not saying that you or we should run right down there & "GET IN THE WAY", but I am saying that we should be prepared to help in anyway that we can.

Maybe I'm a little partial about it. I was in Southern Alabama Monday morning when this thing started. I got out before the wrath of destruction began but I can honestly tell you that the little bit I saw & felt was not a pretty sight.
Also I have a friend, possibly my only only friend that lives in Louisianna with his wife & kids. I found out Wednesday that they are OK & were affected, but not no where close as to what you see on the media.

I have already made arrangements & made contact with people that is in charge down there. With my contruction & excavating background, when they start cleaning up & rebuilding I will most likely be down there working with them side by side.

I'm not asking you or others to do the same. But I am asking that you go to your American Red Cross office & give. A $1.00, 5, 10 50, whatever you can afford. If you can't afford to give cash, then please give them a pint of blood, a can of beans, bottle of water, something. Blood is something your body will renew & it costs you just a little bit of time.

I'm looking into that right now - and will post about how to find a way to donate or help out in the main general discussion forum.

In the meantime - to find a local red cross chapter (one in your area) follow this link -

or this one:
