Pulling with Jody's econo tune

What the most you can pull with Jody's econo 80hp tune? He told me 6K would be no problem, but I'm wondering how much more without the EGT's getting too high? What do you guys think?

you can pull any load, with any tune, as long as you watch your gauges

Agreed. IF your -basic mods- include an EGT gauge, feel free to tow whatever you can hook to. If you cannot monitor exhaust gas temp, I would suggest you not tow anything until you can.

In fact, Dale of Tymar says he has seen quite a few stock trucks with gauges go too high on EGT when pulling a big load. The lesson is you must monitor so you can back off, downshift, or whatever when necessary to preserve the (expenen$ive) engine.

Now I have a question for the experts here -

I look at the modern DI turbo diesels, and little or no smoke comes out. When you chip them they can pour smoke, and this is usually accompanied by high EGT.

What about the older diesels that used to pour smoke out all the time? What kind of EGT did they run?
