Has anyone had a problem with the sealed bearing on the front hub going bad? I have 100,009 on my truck and the bearing is grinding pretty good. The dealer wanted $800 to fix it!! I got the parts from Auto Value and I am going to do it tomorrow for $300. Anyway I don't understand why they would put a sealed bearing in a application that will eventually wear out if you can not service it regularly.

Just about everything is sealed on new vehicles, don't ask me why
Ryan, i have the same question. wondered if the seal could be pulled out of the bearing, bearing regreased, and the seal "pushed" back into positon. if you got the time, pull the seal off the end of the old bearing and post what you see, and if you can put the seal back in the bearing and make it stay... would help those of use that would like to do service on an unservicable part.----- also 100,000 miles aint too bad when you think about it. mine has 128,000 right now and i am THINKING out loud.
I will keep the old hub and do some "testing" with it. I am not sure though the expierence I have had on other applications with sealed bearing is that once the seal is off it stays off.. It is a marketing tactic. most poeple now days don't work on there own car. growing up working on my truck before school just to get to school was not uncommon.well we will see tomorrow.....
I have had same problem, March 2005, replaced driver side hub , rear axle (grooved from shot bearings) Hit curb on highway entrance in fog. Yesterday heard clicking from front, back to dealer and both front hubs bad (under warranty 12m/12,000 from last repair). Was wondering what could be causing?
Replaced factory rim/tires with Nitto 305/70/16 after above 'accident' and raised torsion bars to clear, aligned. Have tire balanced and rotated every 5000 and align 1X per year.
Is combo causing problem? Truck has not been off-road, but do engage @ 2xs a month just to run.
I left message with sevice manager about what may be causing hoping to get answer, when I pick up today. Front left hub replaced in March and bad again 8 months later???
Willl post Dealer response tonight.
Thanks for replies.

If its a Ford Dealer and its the same problem, I believe you have 12mo./12k warranty on their work.
