Help! 3 New Probs. in the Same Day!

Last night while driving home, my ABS light came on. Then as I accelerated from a stop light, my speedo stayed on 0 until I hit about thirty mph then it shot up to to 30 on the guage. Then my Overdrive Off light started flashing. I can still turn the OD on and off, I just have to guess at whether It's in overdrive or not. After it flashed for a while, it starts working normal again until I push the OD button. I did just have a new ATS transmission installed by a shop 3 months ago....Any ideas or suggestions?

I'd have them look at the range selector switch ( neutral safety sw. ) . You could also have a problem with your speed sensor switch.

my 97 done the same thing. there are two wires going into the top of the rear diff. check to see if they are broken or stripped. the sensor they go into is the abs, speedo sensor. tells the abs how fast the truck is going so it can stop it without locking up the tires. if the wires are alright the sensor can be picked up at a local napa for about $40.

I agree......the VSS sensor is probably the problem.

Yes i had the same problem VSS .... $25 form the dealer and 5 miniutes to replace 2 of which were trying to find the right socket. It is located on top of the rear differential and is held in by a single bolt. Make sure you clean around it before removing so nothing will fall in.

Same Problem as BigolTruck

I've got some of the same problems, overdrive (o/d) light flashing, ABS light on, transmission doesn't shift and speedometer doesn't work until I get up to 50.

Gonna clean and, if necessary, replace the VSS, see if that'll do the trick. I'll report back one way or the other.

Thanks for the good intel.

Wanted to follow up.

I ended up having to replace the sensor, cleaning alone didn't fix the problem. The money I saved not paying a shop will be spent on a code reader for OBDII!

Thanks to everyone who's posted information regarding the rear abs sensor (wheel speed sensor) and vehicle speed sensor. I spent a little over 23 bucks to fix a problem that would have cost me over 200 at the dealer.

Truck runs better than it did when I bought it (75k ago).

Oh, a note, I noticed a fair bit of corrosion on the terminals in the wiring harness. Cleaned it out before putting the new one in.

Thanks again,
Branon
