Filters in the Fuel Tank

Has anyone ever cleaned the filters in the fuel tank of a 00 f250? I filled up with bad gas from Wal-Mart, and ever since then been having problems with the truck. Especially in the mornings when the truck is still cold, I loose power and truck starts to shake and knocking noise comes on. I replaced the fuel filter but problem still there. Any suggestions?

Exactly. This is a diesel engine forum so diesel fuel is assumed. Put gasoline in there and you're lucky to get it to run.

I know how you feel about getting bad fuel. I got some about a month ago and am still having problems, just out of the blue it starts getting wicked noisy and fuel mileage drops. I have recently went on a 4000 mile journey with it hopeing that it would clear up but it still does it. I have changed the filters out 3-4 times and used tons of diesel kleen all to no avail. I'm still not quite home from our journey but when we get there I'm going to get a pressure gauge on the fuel pressure first, then I'm not real sure where to go from there. Anybody have any ideas ?

There aren't any actual filters, just mesh screens. It would have to be some pretty big particles to cause a serious flow stoppage.

Might try a biocide...diesel kleen or something.

Yes, I mean diesel fuel. I talked to a couple on so called experts in diesel engines and their telling me that there is two fine filters in the fuel tank, has anyone seen the inside of a fuel tank and seen the filters? They tell me that the filters are about the size of a finger and are located in side the fuel tank.

I've had mine out. It's a screen similar in grade to a screen door on your back porch or window, maybe even a little coarser.

They screen in the pick-up foot is exactly as Kwik described it. Your experts are talking about the screens inside the mixing valve chamber. They are a finer mesh than the inlet screens, but they're not fine enough to have a micron rating.

I'm still not convinced they could be plugged by a single tank of bad fuel, but anythng is possiblre. If you want to try to clear them you could blow some low pressure shop air back through them by disconnecting the fuel line at the fuel pump inlet and blowing back through to the tank.
