03 EB sunroof rattle
Is it possible to take the sunroof out of a 2003 EB expidition without having to drop the entire roof liner? I have this annoying rattle above the passenger seat and cannot find it to save the life of me. It seems like it is in the track somewhere. Anyone have a clue?

I had a rattle in mine also about 2 months ago. O3 EB. Took it to the dealer and they ended up finding a screw that kept rattling around. Dont know how or where it came from but if it happened to mine it could happen again. Just a thought. Dont know about the liner thing, sorry. I know they didnt drop it on mine.

You can remove the glass panel from the inside without dropping the headliner. If you need to remove more than that, start pulling plastic.
The glass is held in by four T-20 Torx screws on my 2001. Open the shade and look to either side the panel. Remove the four screws and lift the panel out the top. We just picked up our 2005 Expy tonight, and the sunroof looks almost identical to the 2001.
Is the rattle like a banging against the glass when going over bumps? If so, you may have the same problem I just spent a couple hours fixing on my 2001. The water trough has a tendancy to come loose from it's guides and rattle around. The reason it comes loose, is because the back of the guides break off and no longer support the trough properly. This can be accessed and repaired without dropping the headliner, by just removing the glass roof panel. Ford has a TSB on this problem, Article # 03-11-10 Titled "Body - Moonroof Water Leaks/Won't Open Properly" Any dealer should be able to look this up, and they should be decent enough to print you a copy. It lists the three parts you need to replace, two guides and a redesigned trough, and the procedure to replace them. The TSB goes up though 2003 Expys. It's not hard to do if you have decent mechanical skills. (average do-it-youselfer) If your Expy is still under warranty, this should be covered, so have a dealer do it.
