EGT on '02 F250
Guys;
I was towing out east when I would go up some of those long 4% grades at about 60, 2500 RPM or so, I would notice the EGT's were approaching 1200. I didn't let it get past that. Just backed off the go pedal and keep it about 1100.
Is this normal? I was pulling a 9000 lb travel trailer. It was about 90 outside.
This truck is absoultely stock except for the gauges. 7.3 PSD F250 CC SB 4X4 auto.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
Frank

Yes a stock truck can get well over 1300 degrees do not let anyone tell you different. I had gauges on my truck long before I did anything else. Then did the cold air intake, then the exhaust and then a tuner, I have since done other (Cooler) mods and when I put it back to stock it tune on my predator it will still run hot while towing my 5er. Do not settle for ignorance. Yes it will hurt itself if you let it

The egt's were cooler because you had a lot more rpm's, the faster you can spin the motor the faster you can get cool air in and out of the motor, if you are using the same amount of fuel, but putting a lot more air to it. Your arn't going to wear out the motor, but the higher rpm's help keep the the water-tranny-egt's down, something to think about....

When going up these grades, it was in third at about 2500 RPM. I don't know how I would have gone up at 70 unless I started at about 85. I just used the pyrometer to stay under 1200. Worked great. I later found on average grades that about 9 lbs of boost would keep it in OD at about 60 MPH.

Missouguy with your setup right now you could get the BTM muffler and install it in place of that very restrictive factory muffler. The BTM is a straight through 3.5" muffler. The '99-03 muffler is a redirecting, baffle style muffler that chokes down to 2" or so inside.
It will be a little throaty sounding with the BTM, but very socially acceptable in volume. And the exhaust heat will have a much larger pipe to go through on the way out of your engine.
