Lesson Learned.
I thought I would share this in case any of you run into a similar problem. My wife has an 03 Ford Escape Limited with the 3.0 V6 with about 50000 miles on it. It's been a great vehicle with absolutely no problems until about a month ago. It got to the place when you start it up it wouldn't hold idle. I had to switch vehicles with her a few times, because I could drive it with one foot on the brake and one on the gas, but she couldn't.....Turns out the Idle air control valve was going bad. I tried to clean it a couple of times, but eventually just went to the dealership and purchased a new one for about $68. It's located on top of the intake, and is held on by two small 8mm bolts, and has a plug in the side. It takes about 2 minutes to change out. I was told at the dealership that this is not necessarily an unusual problem.
