Overdrive Light won't come on

The overdrive light that says"off" on the shifter does not come on when I turn the overdrive off is there a bulb I need to change out or is this a sealed unit everything works just fine but the "off" light does not come on.

What did you find out with your OD light? Where is the bulb? Mine is doing the same thing.

On my 92 the light is an LED integral in the OD pushbutton at the end of the column lever. Pull off the round plastic bezel at the end and the switch can be slid out - its a three pin cylindrical thing. They are cheap to replace if the LED has indeed gone but since its an LED which generally will have a 100,000h life time it would be unusual for it to have failed. If you're feeling brave and can read electrical circuits you can work out which pin is the switch contacts and which is the LED (there is a common ground between them - hence only 3 pins) and then test the LED and switch with a multimeter and a small battery (c. 1.5V).

I would also check you have +12V on one of the pin sockets at the end of the switch and that one is ground. You can try and fool the system by shorting out the correct two pins to simulate a button push and see if the 3rd pin becomes live to energise the LED. I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR DAMAGE IF YOU GET THIS WRONG.

The push button is very cheap to replace (cost me £19 when I ordered it in the UK so its probably only about $10 in the US).

Also, if it was like mine (and after I'd bought the button) you might fine the wiring is severed in the column. Remove the top cover of the column and you can trace where the wire comes out the centre of the column lever. There was an inline plug on mine so I could take it all off and resolder the wires together and hey presto it worked (and now I have a spare switch unit which I'd happily give to you but it would be cheaper to buy one in the US than send it back to the US from the UK).

Obviously this all relates to my '92 and as you don't specifiy the year of your is might be slightly different.

I can send circuit diagrams/ more pictures if necessary if my PM me an email address.

Good Luck

Simon

I have this trouble - the stick has a little play in D, so I just push it up to the top of its range of motion and presto, everything works great.
