I am thinking of changing my van over to an auto trans. Its a 65 econoline with a 3 speed and I am pretty sure it has a 9" rear end in it. The motor is a 240. Can anyone give me some info on the difficulty of this swap and possibly the type of tranny that wil work? Thanks

Brett

I think there are bell housings/converters, etc. to use a C4 automatic behind that engine.

the 65-67 econos have a trans mounting all their own. the c-4's they came with had a special tailhousing, shorter than the car or truck style and made for the econo mount.

you can fabricate a trans crossmember and use a car trans by cutting the driveshaft down, but it is real short when you do that. almost too short, but it will work.
