Question How to get the cargo/dome lights to turn off?!

I can't find any where in the owners manual on how to get the lights to turn off after the doors shut with the engine off. They stay on for a good minute after I shut the doors. Anyone know?

I know, I hate that too. If I want the lights on, I'll turn em on myself.

I'm talking about when I shut her down for the night, and I leave the vehicle. They freakin' dome light and cargo light STAY ON for like a minute, then finally turn off. I want the damn lights off when I say so. So, there's no way of checking that? I checked for Auto timers in the owners manual all I came up with is the headlight deal...?

As posted before, hit the lock button on your key fob. The lights will shut off. Same thing if you have keyless entry touch pad on the drivers door. Hit numbers 7 & 9 at the same time.

You don't have remote keyless entry? I'm currious if you lock the truck and close the doors if the lights shut off then?

jackofall, I do have keyless entry. You are correct, the lights do shut off when I lock it with the remote, but I'm wondering how to get them to shut off when the door shuts, like a normal door switch should.... ya know?

Yup, I do have the keyless entry. And upon referencing the owners manual as I'm sure you have too, I don't see a means to get the dome light delay to 'Zero'. I guess that Ford looks at it as, if it isn't locked, you must still need light, or if it isn't locked, it's not secure, so they leave the light on to tell you to lock it. Sorry, I don't have the magic answer for this. I guess if I were really worried about this, I'd get a good scematic and find the dome/cargo light relay. I'll bet that it's a relay with timer. Once that's found, since it probably isn't adjustable, then I'd try to find a replacement from an electronics dealer. If it's not a relay, then one of those fancy control modules. Of which there probably isn't much chance we as users can adjust, but... But the stealership might be able to. They can adjust the spedo for tire size, maybe they can shut off the delay.

Doubt the dealer can fix it, and it isn't a relay with a variable delay. I believe it is part of the GEM module. I don't remember if the XL series trucks do it too. It is one of those things that is good and bad. Kinda like retained accesory power, i'm sure it could have a negative side.

Cut the wire in the door jam that goes to the switch that tells it to come on that way like you said when you want light you can turn it on yourself. If if don't come on you don't have to wait for it to go off.

If you cut the wires at the door jam, your door ajar will come on, on the dash, and the key in ignition chime will turn on.

I don't know about anybody else, but if I want mine to go off when I close the door, I get out, close the door, wait 10 seconds, then open the door and close it. Goes out almost everytime. Strange, but true.

I guess I could wait 50 seconds more, but I'm always in a hurry.

F250Wheels - you've only got 167 posts? I thought you had that many a year ago...

Why would you worry about something like that? Just hit the FOB twice and forget about it. I mean...you do lock your doors don't you?

I don't blame him. It irratates me too. If you are trying to be "discrete" while doing something at night, you don't want the light staying on. That's just one example.
