goin to silver lake sand dunes

Was able to get 4 days off work so me and the family are headin to silver lake dunes in michigan this sat-tue. Anyone else been there or heard of it?

Ive never driven in sand before and im not sure what to expect, and how well my truck will perform. I figured the best thing would be to go out and try, but some advice couldnt hurt.

First off how much should i air down front and rear? I know you guys need some specs..94 F150 4x4 short bed reg cab 4.9/m5od 31x10.5x15 load range C tires. By no means am i expectin it to perform like a high horse buggy that can climb every hill, just gonna try and have a good time.

Last time there i was like 10 and i dont remember too much, except for someone pullin my dad off the crest of test hill because he didnt want to go speedin over the top. You can get to silver lake through the dunes and and its a giant beech, usually the water is too cold to swim though. I remember seein people in two wheel drive cars and vans tryin to trailer their boats through the dunes to the lake! .

My dads given me some advice, like he explained about airing down, dont go to slow over creset (hah he learned the hard way), keep momentum, and if i start to slow down a lot while goin up a dune just back down before i dig myself a big hole lol. By no means is he a hardcore offroader thats why im askin you guys .

with 15 in rims you can air down to about 10-12 psi without having to worry about the bead coming loose. i would try 12... the less air the better. also dont goose the gas everytime. take it easy. once you start spinning you may or may not get out. also, use good judgement, once you stop moving forward and start sinking down... STOP. the less stuck you are the easier it will be to extract. one last thing, baby steps! dont do anything you dont feel comfortable with... AND HAVE FUN it's vacation

Might want to check to see if you need an ORV licensc on the truck. Check with the DNR and Sec. of State.

You need a orv sticker, flag and go to the ranger station the day before if possible and get a pass for however many days your going to play. You should have no problem getting up test hill in drive and it doesnt have a real steep crest anymore so you dont have to worry about that.No alcohol on the hill. They will check your coolers. There a bunch of gas stations in town that can tell you more when you get there.

Its a BLAST!!!!! Good Luck

I would use 4lo, as the m5od gearing sucks and having it in low range will give you some more shifting options if you start to bogg down, plus less chance of smokin the clutch.

I dont think im gonna use 4lo for the climbin...im gonna need more wheelspin and less rev. As we all know revin the 300 past like 3k is worthless. I tested out 4lo today and i was scared to go faster than 25 in OD because of high revin, and im gonna need more wheelspin to get around good. Im thinkin 4HI in 2nd and ill be able to climb 90% of the stuff there with no prob. Ill try out HI and LO while im there... thanks for all the replys, gotta go to work then leavin tomorrow at like 8am.

I had a 99 f150 and in drive at about 30 or 40 I would hit the hill, make most of it an towards the top it would downshift and then start torqin up the hill.It was badd!!! I probably wont make it this summer but next summer I willand we just got a sweet go cart and quad that are waiting to throw some sand.

Remember to let off the gas and not dig four holes
