Hello all,
I have an issue that I need some help on. I have a 1979 F-250 with a C-6 Transmission. My backing lights don't work. I have checked the bulbs, fuses and all other lights seem to work. In reading my Ford Factory manuals I came upon the Nuetral Safety Switch (NSS) as a possible culprit to my situation. Unfortunately, the manual is not very specific on the replacement of the NSS. I am confused as the manual seems to indicate that the NSS may either be on the steering column (inside the engine compartment) or on the transmission. My question is does anyone have experience with the NSS? Is this something that can easily be replaced and adjusted? Thanks very much for your help.

My 77 F-250 has a C-6 and I had the same problem as you are experiencing. The NSS is located on the left side of the transmission where the shift lever attaches. It controls the backup lights also. It's not hard to replace.

 

In 79 the NSS is on the trans. It is grey, half round and has 2 bolts holding it on. The adjustment procedure is on page 17-02-1 in the factory repair manual. The diagram is on page 17-02-3

Right on man...just checked your sight, was wondering the same thing on my rig also...I saw all the stuff on my truck as per the Chilton's but the book wasnt exactly clear...this helps, it's all about the little things in life
