Ok I saw the block, the seller mentions "will ship to US only so I sent him a message to see if he would break that rule, what's the point of bidding if he won't send it to me.
Mike where you located? That 428 block looks linda iffy. The BIN price looks good but it says it need to go from .030 to .060 and already has one sleeve. 6E1 is the date code of 76 May 1st. Being the block has the outer ribs and triangles on the maincaps does tell me it's a 70's service block. Also the 6 in the date code should have two dots under the first number. I'd be looking for something that you can get a few rebuilds out of. That one having to go .060 will be pretty much at the limits and must have some nasty taper or scaring. Do you want a 427 or 428? Check the classifeds at www.fordfe.com. Lots o stuff! Good guys and parts! G.
Mike check this out on ebay. Item # 4563828019 and does not state current bore but ask if interested. Also states international shipping not a problem. G.
Thanx for the info FFR428. What I would like is a 427 but not at any price. I would be willing to settle for 428 thats solid. I'm currantly keeping an eye on a 427 sideoiler on ebay... But Keith Craft is bidding and is surely going to outbid everyone which sucks cause I'd be getting most of my parts to build it from him, so He'd still be making some coin off this block. As for the 428PI on ebay you recommended, well I spotted it last night and i'm also keeping an eye on that, seems like a good buy if his reserve isn't too high.
It IS only a F100. A couple garbage bags, and the things starts squattin'.
That is true for the most part. My truck does have the overload springs on it, so it hasn't have the squatting problem like a lot of F100s I see around. Man I would really love to have a long bed F250 someday and maybe with four wheel drive too. I know that someday I'll have a camper and this F100 just won't be able to handle it I don't think.
Yea KC snags quite a few blocks. He bought one off me a few years ago even. Some markup is to be expected. Anyway hope the search goes well. Check that net54 forum for some deals also. Guys there list some good stuff sometimes for good prices. G.
Mike check this. Ebay item 7987474173. 390HP block bored to std 4.13 428 and has the crossbolt bosses if you wanted to crossbolt the engine. It has to have 406 wall cores to get the 4.13 bore. Current bid is $1.50. Vern is a nice old guy who sells good parts. Often razzed for his sometimes colorfull decripitions but once you weed through it pretty good stuff. Two bolt motor mount would be the only issue to address but should work.
I don't know the differnces between a 428 PI and 428 CJ? Can I interchange parts? heads? etc... I'm assuming you can. Correct me if I'm wrong I'm thinking the heads, intake (whatever bolts onto the block right?) I mean the block doesn't change????? And why do I sometimes hear about long blocks, short blocks? Excuse my ignorance, but I've actually never inquired about all of this.
After I get and understand these minor details I'll be a smarter Fe lover. By the way I've only really discovered the Fe in the last year so that might explain why I'm missing some of the basics.
The 428 PI block is what later became the CJ block. Both are pretty much the same. Some PI castings were solid lifter but I've never had one. My 67 Shelby had a hyd lifter PI block. My 68 1/2 CJ stang a CJ hyd lifter block. For the most part yes the PI and CJ heads, intakes and such interchange. Just keep in mind the different styles of FE heads and their applications and valve sizes. Low riser, Medium riser, High riser, Tunnel port and SOHC cammer. A long block is pretty much a complete engine. A short block is minus heads, intake, water pump etc... bascily the block and rotating assy. It's been a while so i can't remember exactly what is included and not. The last time I ordered a short block was the late 70's LOL. G.
Do you guys think this block is trust worthy? seems to have been sitting for while. On sale at ebay: 4563428191. Some rust in the cylinders, or does this mean nothing?? it's a 427 top oiler I'm looking at, I don't know if I'll bother bidding on it Keith Craft is.
Well Guys that 427 is now at $1600 and I'm expecting it to go higher, so I'm hestitating, but here's a 428PI on ebay: 4563828019. I've allready talked about this block it's cleaned, pressure tested, magnafluxed and std bore. Seems very interesting. I figure I can still get big numbers out of a 428 at a smaller price, but I'm still not sure. I was curious can I convert a block that is not set up for hyd. lifters to use hyd. lifters?
