[updated:LAST EDITED ON 10-Dec-02 AT 09:51 PM (EST)]ok..if my 79 straight 6 300 isnt warm and i dont ease on the gas its like the carb bogs down and like floods itself...its died before when doing this and it has backfired through the carb before too...what gives?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 10-Dec-02 AT 10:19 PM (EST)]Sounds like either a choke or an accelerator pump problem.
With the engine off, you should see a "squirt" of fuel injected into the carb venturi as soon as the throttle plate is opened.
Additionally, the choke plate should be spring-loaded shut with the engine cold, and open up when the engine warms up.
If this does not make sense to you, have someone who knows carbs check it out.

I'm not trying to steal ladykiller85's post, but we've got a 79 F-150 351m that has the same problem. Bogs down real bad until fully warmed up. I don't know much about carbs, but wouldn't an accelerator pump problem do it regardless of temperature? If it is a choke problem, I don't really understand how the problem actually occurs. I do know the choke closes like it should when it's cold and the truck starts easily but doesn't always want to idle at first.

Mostly, but accelerator pump problems are made worse by the cold.

If the choke is not sufficient or pulls off too quick you can get bogging.

Still an adjustment problem.
