Hey guys...my rear differential has been leaking for quite some time but only a little bit so I didn't think much of it at the time. It now looks like it is leaking quite a bit and has been a cause for concern. It is leaking right by the cover. Hopefully it is just the gasket and nothing serious. Do you guys have any good websites or anything about changing out the gasket and where to get one??

Thanks again
I hope it's the cover. But you need to crawl under there and see if there is a trail leading from the companion flange where the pinion seal is. It will run all the way back to the cover seam....then drip. Just a thought.
I'll check that out Touchofgrey, I'm pretty sure it's just the gasket..it looks like a pressure leak. I'll get a pic up in a little bit
If it looks like a pressure leak.....better yank that vent hose off and make sure it isn't plugged up. Also take out the steel fitting that it hooks to in the axle tube. My hose was fine, but the fitting was plugged with rust.
in responce to the gasket question, there is no gasket per sey, it is just silicone you can buy at any auto parts store for 4$ a tube i have used hi temp and normal and never had a problem. hope it is just the cover seal.
My rear cover is really bad too. It's pretty rusty and is just falling apart. Do you guys know any place with good prices for a new differential cover?
You took pics of everything except where you need to be looking. The area we're interested in is where the u-joint attaches to the differential. The bottom side of the differential in that area running to the back is how to tell if the Pinion seal is leaking.
In any case....from what little I can see from the pics it looks like it's dry, so your probably right in the cover leaking.
One other thing....I see that your differential vent hose is just laying across there. It needs to be attached up in the right frame rail with that plastic part pointing towards the back of the truck. That way you don't get water in you differential.
