Yea, anyone else notice the MASSIVE GLUT of Used vehicles sitting on dealers lots ??

I think the dealers are holding to see what auction results are. For a dealership, this can be painful. $12 million in new inventory is actually on Fords dime. $6 million in used is cash out of the bank, or an additional credit line that has to be negotiated.

In early 04 I was looking at getting an escape, went to a family friend who is in sales. they would offer $4-5k trade for a 00 f150 XL 85k miles. Said no way. Waited a few months, decided to get a 04 f150 to pull a travel trailer. Same 00 f150 XL but now with 107k miles...trade value jumped to 6k! Told him something was screwed up and went to a dealer that was closer to home ended up getting $7k for the trade!. I can't imagine trying to do it now.

Anytime there are great rebates and programs running, trade ins and used trucks get hammered. I just saw a loaded 05 lariat screw 4x4 for about 30,500, and thats a 42k msrp truck. Thats about what i paid on the A plan about a year ago. I would think that now is the time to purchase low miles used truck via private sale.

Luckily I had 50 dealers to choose from in a 45 mile radius. Since the family plan ensured every truck with the options I wanted was the same price at every Ford dealer I just kept going until I got what I wanted for my trade. IMHO, the family A-plan rocks. I work for a Ford supplier so we normally get X-plan and I was already planning for a new vehicle this fall. With the sale I decided to step up to the plate sooner and I'm very happy with my decision.

I got $5500 for my 1999 Jeep Wrangler Sahara, which was right on what Kelley Blue Book told me it was worth-- I did visit 6 dealers until I got it though.

I got the Ford Customer Cash of $2500 and another $500 from the Home Depot deal.

Family plan on my truck was $7200 under sticker.

I was glad to get that for my Jeep. It had 104000 miles on it, and was in need of some serious work if I kept it. Definitely would have had to put at least $1000-2000 into it. I couldn't pass inspection and had been dodging cops since last December.

So basically I gave up my problem Jeep and walked away with a brand new $42900 stickered truck for only $27200. Effin A allright!!

Well, tried the dealership that my father in law works for, and they gave me the trade in value of 5000.00, with my topper. That was the far cry form the initial 3500.00 the first Ford dealer first offered me. I was gonna, consider the trade in. Unfortunately they did not have any of the models of FX4's that my wife and i were interested in.

The day previous to that. I got an trade in offer at a Nissan dealer of 6000.00. Which put me right where i wanted to be no negative equity, rolled onto the next vehicle loan. Sticker on the Nissan 35107.00, and the dealer was sending it out the door for 31000.00 @ 3% interest on a loan. I got the exact options i was looking for in the Fx4 package. Closed the deal Monday night, i would been happy with the FX4 or the Titan.
Boiled down to whom offered the trade in value, and what dealer had the color and options that me and my my wife were looking for.

Good luck all. JS

Bottom line- I hope you liked the Titan better. A lot of folks get so wrapped up in the deal itself that they lose focus on the fact that they're not driving the contract for the next 5 years- they're driving the truck itself. In the Titan vs. FX4 example, althouth the trade-in was slightly higher, the Titan still worked out to be about $2500 more, at least in relation to sticker.

I was planning to buy with X-plan a few months ago and waited. I bought my 05 FX4 SC with the family plan and it cost me about 2000 less than I was going to get with X-plan.

I got better deal before family plan

My 99 silverado was stolen in mid-May. I got paid off from insurance company at the end of the 3rd week of june. I really wanted a chevy, but the inventory was really picked over by the time I got my insurance. I finally found a chevy configured how I wanted it in a town about 120 miles away. It was right next to a ford dealer, and they had 12 FX4 extended cabs configured very similar. I stopped at Ford first to test drive one, but told the salesman I was going to buy the Chevy next door, I just wanted to test drive a ford first. He said fine, but come back and see him he would be competetive with chevy employee price. I went to the Chevy dealer, and they sold the truck 20 minutes prior. They tried to locate another one with same options, but no luck. I went back to the ford dealer, and they gave me a very good price I thought, and I needed a truck, so I bought it.

Then a couple weeks later, I checked the family price for one of their same configured FX4's in their inventory. I got mine for $250 less then ford family plan. Either way, not a bad price.

I was kinda waiting for the family plan to end. It doesn't seem like a hot deal, except that now it's harder to further bargain down the price. It's a good deal for most people though.

So hope the family plan thing won't get extended again, and get my left over.
