Help Aftermarket Upper Qtr. Panel Issues

I am working on a 1977 Ford Bronco.I have replaced everything from the door post to the taillight post. I feel alright about everything except the upper qtr panel. The upper qtr panel came from Dennis Carpenter. The upper qtr. panel lines up nice with the taillight post, but is unacceptable where it lines up with the door. I dont understand why the upper qtr. panel lines up with the taillight post and lines up with the bottom of the upper section of the door but is not flush with the upper portion of the door. I am not satisfied with the current configuration and will do what it takes to line the upper qtr. with the top of the door. I was thinking about cutting a section out of the upper qtr. panel and welding it back together, but that would throw off my alignment at the taillight post. I was wondering if anybody has had this problem before, and how you would address this situation. Contact me for pics

Was the panel a Ford panel resold by your vendor, or was it an import panel?

The reason why I ask, is I replaced the front fenders on my F350 crewcab with taiwan-made replacement fenders since the price difference was so extreme ($50 versus $400 something), and they clearly did not fit. They sloped incorrectly, didn't fit the door seams well, and to my amazement, they are 3/8" shorter from the door seam to the headlight seam! 3/8" SHORTER!!!!!

I put them on anyway because I needed to put the truck back on the road, and I'm looking for rust-free junkyard fenders to replace them. I ordered patch panels to fix the wheel wells of my bed (rust, as always), and they too were "darn close" but "no cigar". I had a lot of hammering to do in order to make the patches fit correctly. Again, a Taiwan approximation of the real thing.

I had the same experiences with taiwan fenders on an 87 GMC. I bought two front fenders and the lines and the shaping were incorrect. Like Frederic, I used them until I could locate a decent set of junk yard fenders. You get what you pay for.

I'd search the wrecking yards in yoru area adn see if you can find a truck with good panels.

good luck
Bobby
