I'm stuck, stuck in Park

Anybody know why the auto shift lever would be stuck in Park? Yes, I had my foot on the brake but its locked in Park. Engine starts and the abs light flashes, I don't even have abs that I know of. I crawled under and took the shift cable off and the nuetral switch. Then with a wrench I could count six positions by turning the shift bolt. That leaves me to believe that the trans is OK, do you guys think that it has something to do with that lock on the brake pedal? I managed to get it into 1st and move the truck out of the way. Funny thing, the flashers didn't work also!

There are four things involved with the shift lock:
1. The shift lock actuator......it receives a voltage from the ignition switch when the switch is in the "run" position. This voltage is fused. I don't know which fuse on your year truck.
2. The actuator also looks for a ground coming from the brake pedal position switch. A check for a ground when it is closed should be made. The switch will read 12 volts when it is not closed. This voltage is also fused. Again, you'll have to check on which one for your year.
You should find one of these items malfunctioning.

Thanks you guys, your a life saver. It turned out to be fuse #13. Replaced it and it blew again. It all started when I was pulling my 3,500 lb boat up a steep boat ramp. I looked back and the boat was bobbing up and down. The hitch ball broke and the saftey chains saved the day. Put another ball on and hooked it up but "stuck in park". I took off the cable and nuetral switch and got it in 1st to move it. What happened was when the chains went tight they cut the trailer wires which blew the fuse. All is well now, left it overnight and posted. Today with your replys I FIXED IT!!! Thanks

When I was waiting and the trans shop I read an article on this exact topic, the guy actually got mad enough, broke the colum so he could put it in drive, drove it to the mechanic and raised hell when they couldn't find this intermitten short on his E350 Van. They replaced the column, turns out it was fuse 16 (probably same as 13 for obs truck). Turns out one of the sensors for his v10 was shorting out to the chassis when it got hot. Lesson learned, if it wont come out of park, check the fuses before you break stuff. New column in the article was 1500.00

WOW, Now that I think about it, I did pull awfully hard on the shifter. I was in everybodys way at the boat ramp and I was getting pissed off. I'm sure glad I didn't break my shift colume!
