Thumbs up

Just bought a 2000 v10 crew cab long bed three days ago. going to use it to pull a 28.5 fifth wheel. Took a bus from detroit to newark friday night and drove it home saturday. I love this truck and the motor. I seriously considered getting a diesel but I'm glad I got the v10. It's amazing to me the power this thing generates to move this huge truck. It's got 57k on it. I intend to use it sparingly with maybe towing 1k a year. I couldn't be happier with it. Good luck on yours!!

pulling that rig with a 2 valve. think of what you could pull with a 3 valve and 52 hp more.

I had a 2000 v10 and got rid of it at 110k miles. Still ran great! Pulled my 8000lbs toyhauler just fine. GearVendor unit aided in the help. I don't want to start anything here, but I have hard time swallowing the "10" on "6-10mpg depending on head/tailwind" or the 8mpg's pulling a 16,000lbs gooseneck trailer. I know from experience the the v10 is a strong motor. I'm not arguing that fact, but I think some of you are taking lessons from the diesel folks. I never got better than 7.5mpg's and by doing that, I blew the tranny because I was lugging the motor. When I kept the rpm's high, I never got over 6 and sometimes I only saw a little over 5. After reading several threads in both the v10 and the diesel forums, I've realized something, maybe we all stretch the truth when it comes the fuel/gas mileage. Have a good evening folks!

Yep! Us deprived 2v owners have had to "make due" with only 310HP/425lb-ft for the past 4 years.

I've always maintained the 310HP version has been the most underappreciated truck engine on the market for the past several years. It's had the tough job of hanging in there neck & neck with GM's 8.1L and despite being 16% smaller in size it still keeps up in towing and unloaded performance.

The new 362HP 3v 6.8Ls just drive the point home even harder! Dodge doesn't have anything to compete and GM's 8.1L is out-powered decisively.

Maybe, but you have to consider that alot of guys are towing alot of different weights with alot of different truck configurations (axle ratio, auto or manual etc) over alot of different types of terrain in different altitudes and weather conditions.

The point is that there's going to be some variation with everybody's mileage experience even if the trailers weigh the same. For example, I know for a fact that a 2wd Superduty can easily gain an extra 2mpg towing over a 4wd. And somebody towing out west in the mountains is going to get way worse mileage than a guy on flat road in the midwest.

Doesn't mean someone is stretching the truth just because they get 2mpg better than you do with a heavier trailer!

I have calculated tanks pulling our (relatively light) 8500lb(scaled) 5th wheel at 10mpg. This was on very flat terrain, perhaps even a slight downhill (Michigan increases elevation going north, which means decreasing elevation going south--watched altitude on GPS, and I always get better mileage going home!) with O/D on.

My last really long trip (took family to Disney) we got an average of 7.65 mpg by turning off O/D and using cruise control.

Here is a page with every tank and miles per tank

Haha! You guys are so funny. You are so quick to call BS when a diesel owner states what he's getting but when the situation flips, everybody defends it with "There are many different combos, situations, air thinness/thickness, and levelness of the road". See where I'm going with this? Just because I never saw close to 9 miles per gallon when pulling doesn't mean that someone else hasn't acheived 10+ towing. So those of you that had diesels in the past and never saw 20+ doesn't mean that other people haven't. Again, too funny!

Actually I don't think I've ever called BS for anyone over MPG. My brother has a 7.3L PSD in his E350 and he pulls a 40ft TT with it. We compare MPG all the time--mine is always worse despite having a lighter truck & trailer! But then I don't have to turn off the engine at a drive through, etc. etc. etc.

I didn't mean ALL call BS. Sorry for the generalization. And yeah, it was nice to be able to hear the speaker in the drive thru. I go in now. I just look on the bright side. When I realize they screw up my order, I'm not half way down the road.

Am I remembering correctly a transmission problem with some auto's from right around that time frame ? It was a backwards pump or something. Sorry I can't recall exactly what it was, but I think I remember something like this. Ken

I pull 20680lbs. GCWR according to the CAT scale. I get 8.3 almost every time. Once I got worse and once I got over 9. This isn't anything great but it does fine for me.
Of course I don't try to pull my trailer at 75-80 mph. I generally stay around 62-65 on the interstate and 55 on the US and state highways. It's not because the truck won't do it,but I don't believe it's safe and it hurts the mileage. There's two things I've noticed that affect people's gas mileage....headwind and the right foot.
