Clicking noise only on hard launch
2001 PSD Supercab 4WD 89,000 miles on it. Just recently I have begun to notice a clicking noise under hard acceleration and only from a dead stop. It honestly sounds like a playing card in some spokes or a plastic grocery bag having BBs fired into it. It sounds like it is centered under the cab. It will do it once the engine gets high in the RPM range and if I stay on it, it will still be doing it for a brief period of time in second gear. I had the passenger side head replaced when I bought the truck (used) and all the necessary wiring harnesses and O-rings replaced as well. I know this is going to sound stupid but, three times today it was clicking away when I left the light under WOT but then it made a sound like I stuck a plastic bag out the window and it was instantly inflated and blew away (kinda a pfffft) I thoughty man that was it! It was better (not so much clicking) but not gone. I really don't know what to check. I have had busted motor mounts before (on other vehicles) and looked at the plastic fan to see if there was any wear. No such luck. I looked at the dust shield on the transmission, two bolts were loose but that wasn't it either. I have searched and read all throught this forum for "clicking" noises. Anybody have a clue?

haha i have this same sound on my ranger, and it only does this whilst going into 3rd or overdrive (cant remember, its been awhile since i've driven it). But i've explained this numerous times to my mechanic friends the same way you have, it sounds like a card in a bicycle spoke. They all say the same thing, its my auto transmission band needing to be tightened, i guess its a fairly easy fix if its the external adjustment, but be careful and dont over tighten it.
