Can Ethanol blend cause CEL
Just drove to Minnesota from KC and back. Was pulling a boat with my 97 EB 5.0. Had no problems on the way up but on the way back the CEL came on in Iowa. Car ran fine the whole trip. I use the middle grade of gasoline (89 octane) when I pull the boat for long distances. But Iowa has an ethanol blend for that grade. I"m wondering if that may have caused the CEL. This has happened every time I drive back from Minnesota thru Iowa. But never on the way up...
Anyway, could gasoline blend this be the culprit?

Fuel blends have longer term affects like trashing the cat. More likely that you put the car into a condition it's not normally seeing in this long drive. Pull the code. You need to find out what happened and then decide if there's something that needs fixing. A CEL should not be ignored. The light doesn't have to stay on for there to still be a problem. Most of the time it will flash once and then store the code, not to light up again.
