While hanging out watching the news this morning, there was a piece on unattended fires in Ford SUVs. It seems there have been in excess of 570 fires with most being total losses and many with homes lost too. What was determined was that Ford (apparently, no one else does this) has the cruise disconnect switch on constantly. It is located on the master cylinder. There have been many recalls back to 92 model Lincoln Town Cars and a great many of our trucks. I know now that I have 2 vehicles to check with Mr. Ford on Monday.
Below is one link to an online story.
Check over on the general topic forum theres a thread about this too also on the ranger forum. Disconnect your cruise control to the brake master cylinder. Will eliminate any fire hazard. Check out those threads for more details.
Well, what's Fords fix for this? I'm the second owner of the truck and it's off warrenty. If there is a danger I want to deal with it before I lose my sizable investment sitting in the driveway right now.
My wife has a 1999 Expedition. If I pull off the switch,,,it will deactivate the cruise-control.....right??
As I understand it, it should just disable tapping your brakes to kick off the cruise. It would require physically hitting the off switch, which seems really dangerous. The other is to unplug it and not use the cruise.
