Is it normal for an F-150 with a Dana 44 to wear on the outside edges of the tread of the front tires? I just noticed my fronts were both gone and the tread is wore off the outside 2-3 inches of the tire. the rest of the tread isn't wore as bad.
Is this normal or do I need an alignment?
thanks for your help.

Sometimes you may just have a minor problem. Has you rotated your tires lately? I would think that your truck probably needs an alignment but it may also need to have your tires balanced too. What size tires do you run?
From my experience with the TTB front end I would say your tire wear is somewhat normal, you have to keep the tires rotated on these front ends, I've been told by my local tire shop to rotate them every 4,000 to 5,000 miles. But it wouldn't hurt to start with a fresh alingment and to make everything is tight on the front end.
I'd agree with Superdave. The alignment adjustments for the TTB are somewhat limited. My stock Firestones were gone by 40K, even with regular rotation and balancing.
It also depends a bit on the tires in question. I replaced the stock set with 31x10.5 BFG AT's and they now have 95K on them, with a bit of life left. As the truck has gotten older, I have not been as good about rotating them, checking the front end components etc.
From the steering slop, I know I have a bunch of work to do on the front end, but I'm surprised the tires don't have the same wear problems...
