Anyone Using A Summit Camshaft
I'm in the middle of rebuilding the 460 in my 87 F250 4x4. I use the truck as a daily driver (winters mostly) and I occasionally haul a truck camper (about 2000 pounds). It's has a ZF 5 speed, 4.10 gears, & 33" tires. The rebuild is basically stock. Re-ring, new bearings, lap the valves, new oil pump, gaskets, seals, etc. I'm putting the stock 4180 holley on a Edelbrock Performer intake. My question is about the cam. I'm thinking about using a Summit cam kit PN:SUM-K3500. It's 204/214 duration at 0.050" with 0.479"/0.504" lift & 112 lobe seperation. First, has anyone used this cam / cam kit with stock bolt down rockers, pushrods, etc? Will I need to get custom length pushrods? The block and heads have NOT been milled and I will be using a stock thickness head gasket. Second, I think this is the right size cam for the job. I don't want to over do it. I know the stock cam is absolutely pathetic at best. Does anyone have experience with Summit cams? Would I be better off spending another $60 for a crane/comp/edelbrock cam kit? Anyone know if Summit is just buying these from a major cam manufacturer?

I have never used a Summit cam kit, I can say that I plan to use a Lunati Cam with .535/.540 lift and plan to use stock length pushrods, After talking with a buddy of mine he told me to go with a chromemoly pushrod, he said he has had trouble mushrooming the ends of stock pushrods. I'm sure if you call Summit they will tell you who builds there cam kits.
