i need to replace the airbox in my 99 7.3l psd I have a dust in the intake boot after the filter (k-n) . the airbox is broken, tabs on lid are gone, held down to make seal with a bungee cord. any aftermarket filter boxes that use the original size filter (rectangular, not severe duty) out there ? any reccomendations ? i would like to not use another ford airbox i think the design is weak.
There are no aftermarket intakes that use the stock filter in a non stock box. The are a couple...AFE and airriad come to mind, that use the bottom of the stock box with a conical filter in place of the lid.
Or, you can ditch the stock box all together and run a big Baldwin, Donaldson, or Napa filter like this:
Using the parameter "quick filter" in the FTE search engine will yield installation and hardware requirements, but the nomenclature is not accurate. That type of filter set up was invented about five years ago by a man named Dale Isley, who now sells the system through his company..Tymar performance. The major difference are his system uses stainless steel intake ducting, a steel replacement batery tray, and a filter hold down. Costs about $125.
The homemade version on my, and several hundred other members trucks, has about $50 worth of parts. The lions share of that is the filter it self.
